This bundle contains the "SDR-RX" Kit and the SDR-Dongle (TCXO 0.5 ppm).
The kit comes with separate parts.
Complete kit for the SDR-RX broadband receiver, incl. PCB, all piece parts, case, front and back panel.
This kit extends the SDR function of our USB-Dongles to the frequency range of 10 kHz to 1.8 GHz.
The schematic and assembly of the kit is detailed in the German radio amateur magazine Funkamateur 5, 6 and 12/2014.
ATTENTION: The front and back panels are delivered with the required cut outs, but without any signage and labelling.
SDR-Dongle (TCXO 0.5 ppm)
This high precision dongle has been manually converted to a low drift, low tolerance version by Nobu Saitou from Japan.
The internal 28.8 MHz crystal was replaced by a 28.8 MHz temperature compensated oscillator (TCXO). By this means the drift/tolerance of the dongle's base frequency is reduced to max. 0.5 ppm (2 kHz @ 1 GHz, 200 Hz @ 100 MHz). Dongles that are used in narrow band SDR applications will benefit from this increased stability as the tuning frequency accuracy and stability will be increased dramatically.
In comparison: start-up frequency precision of the Standard R820T dongles is up to max. +-100 ppm, which equals 100 kHz at 1 GHz or 10 kHz at 100 MHz. While the dongle starts operating it heats up and the oscillator will drift slowly to another frequency of up to 20 ppm. For narrow band SDR applications the Standard dongle must be calibrated and the temperature drift must be followed by adequate means.
IMPORTANT: for ADS-B reception on 1090 MHz neither the frequency precision nor the drift are relevant. ADS-B signals have a bandwidth of 2 MHz (-3 dB) and even a maximum offset of 100 kHz does not influence the quality of the reception.
